Scrapbooking On A Budget

The huge selection of scrapbooking tools and materials at specialty shops will tell you how popular the hobby has become. And if ever you’re thinking of joining the bandwagon, you might even get intimidated. When you look at the price tags of such items, there’s no denying that the craft can be quite costly.

While it’s a fact that some scrapbookers spend a lot for the hobby, it doesn’t have to be that way all the time. Even without spending a lot, you can still come up with eye-catching pages and designs. The following are some ways on how to economize when trying out the craft for yourself.

Let us begin with the album where every photograph, keepsake and embellishment will go. You may detach unused contents of old binders. Or you can fashion a cover out of used cardboard boxes. Either you paint or wrap it up, start using your creativity here. Making your own album, instead of buying one that’s already made, will let you save a huge sum of money.

For the scrapbook pages, old folders or cardboard sheets may be used, and cover them with used gift wrappers. You may also do so using colorful magazine pages. Or why not make your own recycled paper? Immerse in water overnight strips of newspapers. Then turn them into pulp them using a blender. Transfer them onto a mesh, making thin sheets, and let dry under the sun.

There are many items that can be found at home that will make for unique embellishments. You may use fabrics with striking patterns or buttons from unused apparel stashed away in your closet. You husband’s workstation in the garage may reveal little treasures like nuts, washers and the likes. When you let your imagination run wild, there are a lot of things around you can use as decorations.

There are items that will make the pages you create truly memorable. You can use the ticket stub when you attended your son’s school performance where he played his takamine acoustic guitar. You may paste an invitation, party hat and even confetti coils used for your daughter’s birthday party. The sand at the beach where you and your family spent last weekend could also grace your scrapbook!

As with the tools, you can always borrow from a fellow scrapbooker. There’s no need to buy every single tool available for the hobby. In fact, you can get by with just a good old pair of scissors and a cutter. Find clever ways how to cut interesting shapes and patterns. By simply using your resourcefulness, coming up with breathtaking creations is possible, even without spending a lot on them.
